Zanoni botanicals

These etchings are from a Latin translation and expansion by Gaetano Monti of Zanoni’s “Istoria Botanica” first published 1675. Subject: plants of the Middle East.

These etchings have the freshness and openness of a sketch or drawing – sometimes found in very early prints and usually missing from the more heavy-handed copperplate engravings from the eighteenth century.
